Will Quartz Fade, Discolor, or Warp in Direct Sun?

What quartz actually is

The resin and many of the pigments are organic compounds, and organic compounds are the ones that ultraviolet light degrades over time.

Fade and discoloration in the sun

In a shaded indoor kitchen, ultraviolet exposure is low and quartz holds its color for many years. Put that same slab in Redding's direct summer sun, through a large unshaded window or on an exposed island, and the picture changes. Ultraviolet light slowly breaks down the resin and pigments, which can show up as yellowing, a dull or chalky look, or uneven lightening where the sun hits hardest. A pan taken straight off a burner and set on quartz can leave a permanent mark, because the resin softens and discolors at temperatures that natural stone shrugs off. None of this makes quartz a poor choice indoors.
